In East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh, a new initiative is empowering rural women by promoting homestays managed entirely by them. Launched by Collector Keerthi Chekuri ahead of the Godavari Pushkarams festival, the program aims to boost local tourism while providing women with meaningful economic opportunities.
The festival, a major cultural event attracting thousands of visitors, offers the perfect platform for these homestays to showcase authentic regional traditions, cuisine, and lifestyle. By managing these accommodations, women not only gain income but also develop vital skills in hospitality, customer service, and entrepreneurship.
“These homestays allow women to lead and manage businesses independently, boosting confidence and financial independence,” said Collector Keerthi Chekuri.
The initiative also helps preserve and promote East Godavari’s rich cultural heritage. Tourists can enjoy traditional cuisine, handicrafts, and local customs, creating a bridge between cultural preservation and economic empowerment.
With the Godavari Pushkarams festival approaching, women-managed homestays are set to become a key attraction, promoting tourism while supporting women in their journey toward independence and skill development.
