The Delhi government has announced a new Free Skill Training and Entrepreneurship Support Program aimed at empowering women across the capital by helping them start or scale their own businesses. The initiative will offer training in sectors such as retail, tailoring, digital marketing, food services, handicrafts, e-commerce, beauty and wellness, and small-scale manufacturing.

Women who enroll in the program will receive access to professional trainers, business planning workshops, digital literacy sessions, and guidance on accessing government schemes, micro-loans, and startup grants. Special focus will be given to women from low-income groups, single mothers, and those who lost employment during or after the pandemic.

Officials from the Department of Women and Child Development stated that the program is designed not only to improve employability but also to encourage self-reliance, financial stability, and long-term career growth. Additionally, participants will have access to mentorship networks, market linkages, and branding support through partnerships with local businesses and digital platforms.

The initiative is expected to benefit over 50,000 women in its first phase, with training centers being set up in collaboration with NGOs, women’s collectives, and community hubs across East, West, North, and South Delhi. Certification will be provided upon completion, increasing credibility for women seeking credit or business collaborations.

Economic experts have called the move a major step toward expanding women’s participation in micro-enterprises, local trade, and digital commerce. With India witnessing a surge in female-led startups and home-based ventures, officials believe this initiative could pave the way for stronger representation of women in the small-business ecosystem.

Applications will open later this month, with both online and offline registration options available through official Delhi government portals and community centers.
