Panchkula Police Strengthen Women’s Safety Measures Around NIFT Campus

Following rising concerns over incidents of harassment near the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campus in Sector 23, local authorities have intensified security and taken new steps to ensure the safety of women students.

The Panchkula Police Commissioner recently announced that enhanced patrolling will now be a permanent feature around the NIFT area, particularly during evening hours when students often commute between hostels, cafés, and markets. Dedicated bike patrol units and the “Durga Shakti Rapid Force” — a special women-led task team — have been deployed to monitor sensitive zones, ensuring a quick response to any distress calls.

The new measures include the introduction of a “Surakshit Sangini” WhatsApp helpline group that allows students, faculty members, and hostel owners to connect directly with on-duty officers. Police have also begun conducting awareness workshops and safety sessions at nearby hostels to encourage women to report any incident without fear.

These developments come after multiple students raised concerns over instances of eve-teasing and misbehavior by outsiders near the campus gates. The administration’s swift reaction has been welcomed by parents and locals, who have long demanded stronger protection for young women studying in the region.

“This is not just a response; it’s a message that women’s safety is non-negotiable,” said one senior officer during a campus outreach program.
