It’s a proud moment for the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh as Tenzin Yangki has etched her name in history by becoming the first woman from the state to join the prestigious Indian Police Service (IPS).
Born and raised in the scenic mountain town of Tawang, Tenzin’s journey to the IPS is one marked by perseverance, courage, and quiet determination. Her achievement comes as a significant milestone for a region where women continue to challenge traditional barriers and forge new paths in public service.
After completing her training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, Tenzin received national recognition for her accomplishment. Business leader Anand Mahindra lauded her journey on social media, calling it “a reminder that being first is never easy — but someone always must lead the way.”
Throughout her preparation for the civil services examination, Tenzin balanced personal challenges with a sense of purpose inspired by her home state’s vibrant culture and resilience. Her success story is expected to motivate countless young women in the North-East to pursue careers in law enforcement, administration, and governance.
Speaking after her induction, Tenzin Yangki said, “It’s not just about me. It’s about every girl who dreams of serving her nation despite the odds.”
Her story represents more than a personal victory — it’s a reflection of how women from remote corners of India are rising to take on leadership roles in fields once considered off-limits.
