The Telangana government has taken major steps to boost the economic empowerment of women by initiating discussions with Amazon to feature and market products created by women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
This partnership, once finalized, will give thousands of women micro-entrepreneurs exposure to national and global markets, enabling them to scale their businesses beyond local boundaries.
Officials highlighted that SHGs in the state produce a wide range of items, from handicrafts to home-made goods, and integrating their products into a major e-commerce platform will significantly increase visibility, income, and growth potential.
Alongside this effort, the government has rolled out the Indiramma Saree scheme on a massive scale, aimed at supporting traditional weavers while providing affordable, quality sarees to women from low-income households.
This dual initiative is being hailed as a thoughtful blend of social welfare and economic empowerment, simultaneously uplifting women entrepreneurs, strengthening rural industries, and ensuring that local artisans are connected to larger markets.
