The women’s wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state of Punjab announced that it would march to “gherao” the residence of Arvind Kejriwal in Chandigarh, in protest of the unfulfilled promise of ₹1,000 per month to all women made by the opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in 2021.
The BJP Mahila Morcha alleged that despite four years having passed, the promised benefit , amounting to ₹45,000 over 45 months , has not been paid to women across the state. Hundreds of women and party workers gathered at a rally starting from the BJP office in Sector-37 to highlight the issue and demand accountability.
The protest points to a growing frustration among women who were mobilised with hope during election campaigns and now feel sidelined. The organisers said this demonstration marks the beginning of a larger accountability campaign centred on women’s financial rights and political promises.
