The Andhra Pradesh government has launched ‘Sakhi Suraksha’, a new health initiative under the Arogya Andhraprogram aimed at improving preventive healthcare for women associated with self-help groups (SHGs).
The program specifically targets women aged 35 and above and focuses on early detection of chronic diseases, cancers, nutritional deficiencies, and mental health concerns. Health screenings are being conducted at multiple centers across Visakhapatnam and will continue until October 26.
Participants are provided with health cards, and women requiring further medical attention are referred to hospitals. Additionally, the initiative includes teleconsultation services and digital health records under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, ensuring continued support and monitoring for beneficiaries.
Officials say the program aims to empower women through health awareness and early intervention, ultimately improving community health outcomes across urban areas of Visakhapatnam.
