The Delhi Police has expanded its all-women patrol unit initiative across major markets, metro stations, universities, and residential areas to curb harassment and ensure round-the-clock safety for women.

Key measures include:

  • Deployment of over 1,200 women officers in patrol vehicles
  • Emergency assistance via the upgraded 112 helpline
  • Tie-ups with metro authorities and cab services
  • Self-defense camps in schools and colleges
  • Quick-response teams in nightlife zones

Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora said the initiative is part of a broader strategy to make Delhi “the safest metro city for women by 2027.”

Women’s rights groups have welcomed the move but also called for better street lighting, faster FIR processing, and stronger enforcement of anti-harassment laws.
